Oil seals '82 750 LTD
03 Aug 2017 07:07
Ok, so i've been having a slow, drippy oil leak for a while now. I've finally figured out where it's coming from. It's coming from at least one oil seal inside the left side cover. I don't know if it's the seal on the shifter shaft or the shaft that the front sprocket is attached to. I also don't really care which it is because i've decided to replace both, and perhaps even the seal on the clutch rod if there is one.
So I'm looking at Z1 Enteprises and I'm seeing an Output Shaft and a Counter Shaft seal for my bike... I'm unsure which to get because from what I can tell, "output shaft" and "counter shaft" are basically the same thing on this bike... So I'm wondering which one I should get?
I've already bought an actual seal puller so I can get the seals out without scoring anything, as well as the proper sized (27mm) socket for getting that sprocket nut off. However, I'm also going to need another one of those washers that holds the nut on and prevents it from spinning off. Does the seal from Z1 come with that? Or is that something that comes with a sprocket? Or is it sold separately? I already have a new front sprocket from Z1Enterprises, but I haven't installed it yet (don't really need to yet. I'm waiting till I have to replace the chain again).

If you look here you can see the three seals you need . I just remove the cover and do them all on the bench . I think you need to order that lock washer separately . Pretty sure it doesn't come with the sprocket

I replaced the seals, but I still have an oil leak coming from that part of the bike. It's greatly reduced though. Just a tiny little drop, like an eighth of a teaspoon after I park, where it was several tablespoons...

Did you replace the seal/o ring behind the secondary shaft cover ? Its the circular cover to the left of the neutral switch. You can check it without taking the left cover off using a mirror. Wipe off any grime and leave it alone.
I also used a bit of clean cardboard underneath the bike when parked to see where the drop was falling..
If that proves to be your problem then its an easy fix
