I gunked up a pretty pricey set of NGK iridium plugs running some seafoam through my engine, didn't really think too far ahead on that one... I sorta let some gas sit in the tank for too long, to the point where it got sorta icky but didn't seem to necessitate disassembling the carbs. I had a set of B8ES plugs sitting around that I popped in to keep the ball rolling, but I wanted to try and clean up the Iridiums so I could still use them, the bike really runs well with those plugs! I've always known of the old trick of super heating the fouled plugs with a torch to burn off the carbon, it works OK, but I'm not crazy about it. Anyhow, I had some Hoppe's No. 9 in my tool box that I use to clean my rifles with, I thought "hey, that cleans carbon, right?" Here are the results. I am quite pleased and thought it was worth sharing!

I poured some of this miracle elixir into a small plastic spray can cap, and let the plug soak in it overnight. Then, I used a plastic bristle brush to scrub the carbon off, and rinsed it afterwards.

Matt, Shooters Choice or Butch's Bore Shine would probably work better than Hoppe's #9 for the more serious shooter. :-)

Do you find those to work better? I have just always used Hoppes because that's what I grew up using, and it's always worked great. I'm also super fanatic about cleaning every time I shoot, so none of my guns have ever been very dirty before either. I'm also not a big recreational shooter, more of a meat hunter, and KZ junkie, of course! :)

Glass Bead. I've been doing that for over 30 years. Just got to make sue you clean the threads. Plus I had a bag of 1000 new gaskets, that is still 1/4 full from that long ago. I always use a new plug gasket after a re-install.
