Kz650 cam swap issues!!! was created by Wildman1024
Ok so I have a set of 750 cams I am attempting to install in my 650. I have done the whole procedure twice with the same results!

I have set the crank to the T mark for 1-4. Exhaust cam has the T arrow level with head and facing forward. Intake cam has T arrow level with head and pointing toward carbs. There are 36 link pins from arrow to arrow.

Once I attempt to turn engine over by hand it feels notchy and I believe valves touch pistons. After turning engine over when you realign the cam marks with the head the 1-4 t mark on crank does not align again.

Not sure what I am missing here but I have been through the procedure 3 times!!!

Using the 650 sprockets I took off my 650 cams and put onto the 750 cams

Yes they look identical in the bike. Is the 36 pin rule for the chain wrong? I took a before picture and just counted and its at 35.

It's 99% likely that the camchain has come off the crank sprocket which will explain the notchy rotation and the TDC mark not lining up.
This will also cause the tensioner to use up most or all of it's travel to take up the slack.

Agreed. You don't rotate the engine until the cam chain adjuster is on and adjusted on these kind of engines.

OK...Got it figured out. I was doing the tensioner/tensioner adjustment wrong. Once i did that correctly it resolved my issue. Engine now turns over smoothly. Thank you for the replies.
