Compression psi on a stock kz1000 was created by Linsk
I would like to know the stock psi range on a stock 80 KZ 1000. I understand each cylinder should be between 10 to 15 %. I purchased a 77 KZ 1000 Drag Bike the bike went through a couple hands. I don't know cc or compression ratio . I did a compression test on #2 cylinder and got 230 psi the remote started needs some attention so I could not test the rest. I also have a 80 KZ 1000 with a 1075 kit on it. Last time I test it I got I believe 130 t0 140 difference. If anybody knows it would be a great help. Could not find it in my manual. Thanks Ron L

Take a look at the two Kawasaki Service Manuals in the links below. They cover KZ1000 models a little older and newer than yours, but they should give you an idea of the compression to be expected. Ed

A stock KZ1000 motor in healthy condition should have about 130~150 lbs of compression. You need at least 100lbs just to run in my book. I do my compression checks on a warm motor with all the plugs out and wide open throttle. I only have a kickstarter on my KZ1000 motors. I kick 8 to 10 times per hole to get my readings.

Now your 1075 motor with 230lbs of compression must have about .050 cut off the head at least. I have a 1103cc motor with cams that have 440 lift and 284 duration and I get 220~235lbs on a fresh built motor with about a half hours running time on it. I know I cut at least .050 off that head. I forgot what my chambers cc'ed at.

Thanks yea the 1075 motor had 135 to 140 I had it built by Orient Express back in 89 . I have this 77 kz drag bike that gave me the 230 psi in #2 cylinder this bike was built right for back in the day. I want to get it running and go from there maybe get some test passes on it. Then in the winter open it up and se what I got. I have know clue what this bike has.
