guesstimated performance ? was created by kzdcw
I'm getting closer rebuilding my 77' KZ1000A motor. My plans are to go with a 1075, street cams , head work, 28mm carbs. and Vance/Hines 4:1 exhaust.
My 2001 ZRX I had at one time had all the performance I wanted. Do you think a KZ motor would have something comparable ?
Anyway to predict Horsepower and Torque ?

A wild guess is all anyone can give you.
If built and tuned properly that combination should make more than stock and Kaw 1000s have always been known to be very quick .
Builders love to throw out high horsepower claims . But it all comes down to are you happy with the feel you are getting thru the handlebars? So stock is in the low 80 hp range and you can guess in the 90s or as high as you want to .

The 2001 ZRX engine produces about 122 hp. Given enough money, a KZ1000 engine can be modded to produce that much and more, but I seriously doubt the changes you plan to make will approach that number since it is a bit more than a 50% increase over stock. Ed

Comparing a modern water cooled (detuned) 16 valve head to an old school 8 valve air cooled is a really tall order and the odds are against it. Those ZRX have such loutish bottom end tourque i think difficult to get on an 8 valver unless you go really sleepy on the cam duration and lobe centres.
Also the factory bhp outputs 'from the crank' were I think a little inflated at times making rwbhp comparisons difficult. (1)
Even if you knew what the real bhp was stock, maybe 10-15 percent if it is set up just right. Alternatively bolt a zx1100 motor in for more poke and less cash.
.Also for fast road use, the 'shape' of the dyno graph matters a lot more than the top numbers, unless you are drag racing it.
(1) came to me from an ex Kawasaki dealer who actually dyno tested some GPz1100 B models. The 'euro' models were even worse.

Maybe this can help as a comparison.
My J engine with 1075 MTC kit, .418 cams, ported w/ oversize valves, FCR35s, and Kerker 2 inch did almost 100hp at the rear wheel with a twisted crank I didn't know about. I think factory was 91 at the crank.
So I'm guessing at a gain of 20-25hp.

I know it's kind of a loaded question but just trying to see if anyone else on the Forum has an engine build similar and maybe had some real #'s tested . I'm sure this is a common build and hopefully the new owners of these upgrades are really happy with the performance gain experience.
