Says: This overshift bushing prevents the "arm" from jumping away from the shift drum, for a positive shift. It's really necessary when you install an air shifter. It mounts on the end of the shift fork shaft, behind the countershaft sprocket. This fits KZ1000 J Models 1980-1984.
Sounds like they're trying to prevent the rear arm that's part of the shifter shaft from getting too far away from the drum when using an air shifter. But it says it mounts on the shift fork shaft, while it actually mounts on the cover boss? And kinda weird because it will have no effect on the lever on the front side of the drum.

You don't need if no air shifter fitted.

aquaholic wrote: Just a stupid question after 2 cold ones but What in the cover picture you have posted is "RATTLING AROUND" ? What year is your bike ? I have a 1981 KZ1000 J and it's not on my bike. Not sure how it could rattle around by the picture but I'm still learning. Please let me know what you find out. Jon
Mine's an '82 K. Same engine as an '81 J.
It's an aftermarket add-on part that fits loosely on the bump inside the cover. If not needed I won't reinstall.
