Technically, because the caps are cast with the head, the correct repair is a new head. But if you install a used #3 cap, and the cam spins freely with oil clearance is in specs, It most likely would be fine. I've done it on a Honda Civic engine.

I would replace it with a used salvage one. That is going to vibrate and heat cycle over time. I think it will run the risk of loosening. Good news is it will be clanging long before it comes free. The machining will be tolerant with the cap, more tolerant than if it loosens and comes free. I suppose too you could locktite the bolts and reduce torque appropriately. Alternately, a good MIG/TIG guy could get that in a jig and spot weld the crack. Some heat deformity in the bracket shouldn't be too excessive. Good Luck. R

The cap bolts carry the vertical loads imposed by the valve springs. Lateral thrust is essentially nil, being limited almost entirely by the camchain.
We see loose cam caps at Mid Ohio often. Maybe should begin stocking up on them...?
Good info in Peter1958's link too.

Agreed. Conditionally. That being, it would be in the back of our minds, bugging us to no end.peter1958 wrote: You can just run it like that.

It will be just fine as is.
Can't really move anywhere.
No's 1 and 3 caps control camshaft end float though so you may want to fit locating dowels to the two bolts that don't have them for extra security or have the bridge spot Tigged with it in situ but have seen loads running like this with no issues.
Fitting a rogue cap from another head will put you deeper in the shit with additional fitting problems to address as they can be off in every plane which will cause even more damage if you don't know what you are doing.
