Starter rebuild was created by MadeupofWires
I'm currently in the process of trying to rebuild my started. I have hit a bump in the road quite early in the process. The screws that hold the sidecover in place will not budge. Anytime I try to remove them the heads want to strip. I've sprayed them with some liquid wrench. Has anyone had this issue and gotten the screws out?

If you take your Philips screwdriver and grind a little of the point then it will then fit the JIS screws.

You might to think about a impact wrench too before the heads are tore up too bad...... I switched over to allen heads a long time ago with a trace of anti seize to save this head ache.

Are you sure the starter needs to be rebuilt ? They are amazingly sturdy. Usually, thr starter clutch goes first.

The reason a large percentage of screws are all chewed out is due to the use of Phillips head screwdrivers, these are NOT Phillips head screws, as mentioned above, they are JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard), JIS screwdrivers are the absolute best tool to remove these screws, nothing is better or more efficient....
These are the ones I use and highly recommend, This is an Australian site, the drivers with the silver handles are actually Impact drivers.
Google Vessel USA, there are plenty of people selling these in the USA...
