Cam chain length
03 Nov 2016 07:42
I received my replacement cam chain and noticed when comparing them that the new one is shorter by one link. I wouldn't think a chain would stretch this much. I'm kind of concerned here and need some advice.
This is the chain I ordered www.z1enterprises.com/product/KL12-8099 I have a special tool to rivet the link back together.

How many links and what bike is it? My old chain stretched about 1/4" compared to the new one.

It seems you purchased the wrong chain. Removing links is okay to get the proper length but I wouldn't attempt to lengthen.

78 Kz1000 I'll have to count the links and compare what it says on the box. Thanks for the replies!

You need a 122 link chain for your 78 1000 ( Which would have been Part number EK 219 H )
The one you have bought is 124 links which fits the later (square cam cover) MK2/ST1000 .
Simply remove 2 pins to get the correct pin count and length ( it's the same chain type and pitch)

Ok, I got it all figured out. I had a brain fart and was looking at the wrong chain this morning. :S Yep, I did the count and got 122 pins. Thanks for the help!
