Norris 397 camshaft info
16 Oct 2016 16:06
Does anyone have the specs for the Norris 397 grind. The cam is around .380 lift. I'm looking for a mild street profile that would work with about 9-1 compression ratio. Thanks in advance!

Would you be looking at the set on the e Bay? for $200.
I would use them in a heart beat! Stick with stock cam sprockets.
Or do you have them already? They suck! I'll give you a $100 for them now! Just like Kenny Harmon K-1's or Andrews 2X.
Bolt in and go! Need some 29 smooth bores to feel the difference!

Thanks for the reply. I was concerned it would be to much for the low compression ratio This is going to be my winter project. 78 KZ1000, 1075 piston kit. Rebuild the cylinder head with port clean up and match with.440 lift springs. I will be using Mikuni BS34 carbs.

I was also wondering how I'd go about degreeing this cam without a cam card.

If you can't find the recommended timing figures then all you can do for starters is set them at 110 degree lobe centres and see how it goes.
You can always close or spread them later.
I'm running Norris .407's in one of mine and after much searching I found that those happen to run at 110 degrees anyhow.

Thanks for the info. I've only degreed a cam once before and that was years ago with a S/B Chevy. Hopefully I can figure this out.

Best to degree any aftermarket cam you would not believe how far off they can be ! if you do not want to degree them DON"T BOTHER INSTALLING. I would start at 110 and ride it to see how it works for you.

I received the used cams today and did some measuring. The base circles are right at 1.110 and the journals also measure good. The lobes are not consistent and with .015 variation. The largest is 1.500 and the smallest is 1.485. This seems like a lot of wear. I think I got screwed on this one!

Some cams are more prone to this then others. The cams in my 1428 I bought used and 2 lobes had over 015 less then the others but they never wore beyond that in the last 4 years.
I sold you those and have no problem returning your money.
I would say lets hear if others have comments, I think thats more common then we realize.

Thank you for working with me. I talked to my friend at Redline Cams and he said, the wear was excessive and recommended regrinding.
