When changing oil for the first time on this bike 77 A1 KZ1000, I found the filter bypass assembly missing.
I have part a, of course, but no: B, C, or D.
Is the oil getting filtered at all?

PO says 1170 kit installed.
I am also missing the Fence in this picture. And, I have a bolt on the cover that is not shown in my manual - I have indicated where this bolt is with the orange circle in the pic. I am using a newer manual for J, K and M models. What does this bolt do - kind of looks like a simple drain hole.
Do I need a Fence?

Nothing missing from your filter bolt.
Later 998cc J motor filter arrangement is different.
Your early kickstart equipped motor has the bypass valve in the case a drain bolt on the cover and doesn't use the metal shield.
You should get the correct manual for the 903cc/1015cc motors before doing any further maintenance .
