Total noob here......I bought a bike and it seems to be in good condition but I have no info or backround on it.
The badges on the side covers have been removed,It didn't come with any paperwork.
What I do know is: The Vin : KZ250V 000028, Year 12/1982.........It has a single exhaust pipe, one carby and chain driven . It dosn't have disk brakes.
I when I look up any info I find heaps on all these kz variations but I dont think they are the same as mine and very little info on mine when I google KZ250 1982.

Any help would be great....then I could start asking all me other questions lol

If your bike was built in 12/1982 it will be a 1983 model. Think about cars. If you buy a car that was built in December of 1982 it will be a 1983 model. If vehicle manufacturers waited until January 1 to build that year's model they would have no inventory to sell in the beginning of January, and if they had been building the previous year's models up until December 31 they would be stuck with a whole bunch of last year's models on January 1.

I don't see a chain drive KZ250 model for USA import in 1982 or 1982, and I don't see a KZ250-V for any year. The 1982 was a KZ250-L1 CSR and the 1983 was a KZ250-W1 LTD. Both were belt drive bikes, neither had disk brakes. Are you located in the USA?

I do see that Kawasaki made a 1982 and 1983 Z250-LTD that had a chain drive, but it was labeled "Z" rather than "KZ" which means it probably was not imported to the USA. For specs see www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/kawasaki...aki_z250ltd%2082.htm

Then I would like to know about the air filter.....It dosn't have one :( I would love to see a picture of what the air filter is supposed to look like. I have read all the forums on air filters so I'm pretty sure they do'nt make them anymore, the forums have put me off going for a POD option...........So my idea is to attach(silicon, rivit?) a K&N panel filter to the outside of the air filter box....how would this go?

Take a look at the links below; they show the air filter configuration for the 1982 and 1983 KZ250 belt drive models. Maybe your air box looks like one of them? Ed

Take a look at the link below. It shows a place that sells obsolete parts, and it says they have the filter element (part # 11013-1039) in stock. They are located in Sweden, so the prices shown are in Swedish Kronas. 143 Swedish Kronas equals about 22 Australian dollars. Ed

Replied by martin_csr on topic Please help me identify my bike.....to start :)
Cylcechaos.com has engine # info & vin or frame# info for a number of Kawasaki motorcycles.
Also, you could try Zedder.com, but you have to buy the software for the complete info.
I'm not sure if either of those sites have info for non-USA models (or models outside N America).
