82 GPz550 not firing on all cylinders.

So I've been trying to get this bad boy running for a while. I just got new intake boots and adjusted the float level in the carbs and the engine no longer runs away. I got a new battery in it yesterday and fired it up after the final float bowl adjustment, it was idling fine with the choke on, but I noticed that it was a lot louder on the right side of the bike, and there was significantly more blast coming from that exhaust pipe. Then I felt the headers, and cyl 3 and 4 were HOT and 1 and 2 weren't even warm. I checked the spark on cyl 1 and 4, and it looked about the same. Then I switched the leads on cyl 1 and 2, and cylinder 1 was then firing, but 2 was not. It idled for about 30 seconds and then died and refused to start again.

Any ideas what is the matter? The plugs are new and have correct gap. Could it just be that I have the leads connected to the wrong cylinders, or are my coils bad?

One coil fires cylinders 1&4, the other one fires 2&3.
If hooked up correctly, you may have a couple of bad sparkplug wires or caps.

Okay they are definitely hooked up correctly, and the leads are new. I just checked the fuel level in the bowls and it was low on cyl 1 2 and 4. Guess I adjusted them too far! This is probably why it wouldn't start up again. Thank you for your help!

Unfortunately that's not it... I pulled #2 spark plug and... well that explains knocking on left half of engine

I just had the head off recently. I may have just whacked that spark plug. Am going to bend it back into place and see if it works. There is no visible scarring on the piston surface looking through the spark plug hole.
