Valve Shim Tools cont. ? was created by kzdcw
Appreciate all the input on zip tie use to change shims for valve adjustment.

I did read on other Posts, that using this method might compromise the valve stem seal by exerting a little side lateral force on the "old" harden rubber seal and possibly crack them ?

And the other comment made was that using the zip tie might dislodge any carbon buildup around the valve or valve seat ?

Any Truth or Concern to these comments ?

You'd have to have some pretty loose valve guides to ruin a seal.
But I would like to see some pictures of this being done!
And I don't think you should use some cheap harbor freight dollar zip ties, better have some quality ones.
I have some pretty hefty ones in stock.
But I use the OEM tool, been since 1977

Ii have cleaned three KZ heads and never had carbon that would come off from the seat side of the valve. Granted none of thesee heads was rejetted or fubared. On the pressure to seals absolute poppycock. You will put way more pressure when removing a valve with a spring compressor. Given this is the natural cam action being used iI see no way this could damage a valve seal or.guide. R

Good Solid Input and I Appreciate It !!!

I have a 11" long zip tie as I said in my other Post. Hopefully I can use that one ? z1kzonly, which one are you using ? Don't have a problem purchasing the OEM tool if that is a better choice, but the zip tie method certainly doesn't appear to have any risk factors and is virtually free.
