It probably had an electronic tachometer. the Kawasaki electro tachs I've seen have a power wire, ground wire & sensor wire that connects to the black primary wire at one of the ignition coils. On some electronic tachs the sensor wire is wrapped around one of the spark plug wires, but I don't know anything about that type.

these are probably cheap junk. not sure, but likely. ??? .... oem meters might could be swapped in later. ???
PS: are you sure about the year of the bike? In the USA I think 1984 was the last year for the KZ550.
