headers temperature was created by shamal
i did a search on the forum, but i didn't find a good response.
what is the correct temperature for an air cooled bike like our 550's ? i read that up to 900 F° is fairly normal. is this true?

VERY useful and neat chart Ed, thanks for sharing. Highest temp I see there is 370 F, so anything 400 F and under I would assume is normal operating temp based on that alone?

I would say that is based purely on the chart that Ed posted it is in the "normal" range but at the very upper echelon. You could be just slightly lean which would cause the higher temps. If you have a color tune unit that would be an ideal way to see where you are at for A/F wise to see if you are lean, fat, or goldilocks zone.

Remember factory down tubes are double wall, and will have a lower surface temperature than aftermarket hearers with are almost always single wall.
Exhaust gas temperature is in the range of 1500°F.
