If I was to have a KZ motor built by some one I'd go with Larry, Jay at APE or Pit stop performance in Fla.

1980 KZ650 F1
ZX750A1 motor.
Wiseco 810cc kit.
Zukiworks racing ported head.
VM 29 smooth bore's.
Dyna 2000 Ign. w/Dyna mini coil's
APE cylinder stud's and nut's.
APE valve spring's.
APE Track King clutch.
V/H KZ1000 sidewinder.
3.5x18 laced to a KZ1000 disk hub.
150/60/18 Shinko 006 Podium.
63" wheel base.

I have delt with Larry and have nothing but good things to say. He is quite a character if you get to talking with him. He is a very competent engine builder.

He worked some magic on the head for my 6 cylinder...

I was there a few times for some minor parts and advice, and came away satisfied with both. However, they recently moved, and I was under the impression that Jim was winding down his business.. Maybe I'm totally wrong on that impression. I once ran across a guy, who worked there, and he was riding a restored 81 Gpz550. He said his boss rebuilt it for him. That motor looked and sounded awesome. Unfortunately, the guy said his boss does not normally work on the smaller Kz's. It was just as a favor to him. Seeing the results on that 550, I would have taken a motor or two there.

Lou, Jim closed down & sold the building,, It's now a car wash from what I've heard, I heard that Jim is still selling parts out of his home, If & when he answers the phone, Jim did the 1075 work to my 80 LTD 1000 & I'm very happy with the work he did, Jim was a nit picker & a perfectionist, but a PITA to work for because of that & had a hard time keeping good mechanics to work for him
but all the work I've seen that Larry has done, is Impeccable
I haven't heard anything negative of Larry or Jim's work, so It's kind of a crapshoot, but since Larry is still in business & doing well, I'd say get the engine from Larry
Pete

Thanks Pete. I have a buddy who worked there, long before I met him. He wasn't a mechanic. He said he liked working there, but there was a lot of yelling involved, apparently. :)

Send crank to Pearson or Gardener.

Send head to Larry.

Send cylinder and clutch hub to Jay at APE for boring and a HD back plate rebuild.

Assemble the engine yourself and spend money saved on a nice set of RS carbs and find someone to jet them on a dyno for you.

I think that link is hijacked, I called the toll free # that's listed, & It's a survey,
Jim's # at the shop was 847-675-2020, & that # is disconnected
He had a big going out of business sale I think it was last yr. or the yr. b-4
