I'm going to look at a KZ1000 tomorrow. Sorry don't remember the year and not sure of the condition. I know it has been sitting at least one year. Anyway the deal is too good to pass so I guess what I want to know is any gotchas you can think of to check? Owner says it has compression so I'm taking a battery and a comp tester with me to evaluate the engine. Since it's been sitting in a garage I don't expect it to be too rusty or fouled but you never know. As I remember it may need a seat cover and turn signals to be complete.

What about side covers? Are they hard to find and expensive? Any other body parts that are hard to find and/or expensive?

I have bought plenty of non-running bikes but I'm always picky about them being complete. But maybe this one is in poor enough looking condition that I can spend some time making it look nice. Not doing a resto.. Just and update maybe to more modern.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

Sorry after I posted this I realize without knowing the year and model this was a dumb post. One of my sons has an 81 kz1000 J 1 ? and I've helped him work on it for the past couple of years. Other than a nagging oil leak from the left exhaust cam cover it's been a really solid bike.

I'll probably buy it anyway unless it's completely trashed. It has a title and is rolling so for $400 how can I go wrong? I've seen parts bikes go for double that around here. Supposedly all it needs is carbs cleaned an a battery to run. If they are CV I hope he still has the air box.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

there is a minor problem with the signature on the title so I'm checking it out today at the DMV before I get the bike. Seller signed it on the wrong line. But it is a CSR not a KZ? Never heard of a CSR prior to this. The bike did actually start and ran! Tires look new and paint is bright and shiny. Seat is in good shape as well. Tank is a little rusty but only surface rust. I've revived a lot worse. Stupid me I had the title in my hand and didn't note the year. Thinking 81 or 82. No obvious oil leaks and engine was actually pretty clean. After seeing it I want if more now.

Don't fix it until it's broken.

Well if the deal goes through I'm thinking about keeping it for a while. I've had 3 KZ750 in the past couple of years and kicked myself in the butt every time I sold one, Most recent was a KZ550 that I really liked but a guy made me an offer and away it went. I seem to find, or they find me, new riders and want a good bike to start riding and learning. Always seems to be nice young guys and I can't pass up a chance to help get a new rider started. My real joy is reviving a non-running neglected bike and get them safe to ride and running good. Honda, Suzuki Kawi I don't care who makes them. I like them all and enjoy the work and every time I get one running right it puts a smile on my face.

Anyway I'm stoked at the possibility of getting this one. Maybe if I get it running well my youngest son will ride it and leave my Harley's alone for a while! Those Harley's, I have, are "geezer glides" and he is 23 years old and needs to be riding something more sporty.

Don't fix it until it's broken.
