Oil pressure gauge?

Oil pressure gauge? was created by DurbinCR
I am curious if it's possible to run an automotive oil pressure gauge on these bikes, something like this www.autozone.com/gauges-and-gauge-access...re-gauge/853169_0_0/ .

Would it be fairly simple to do or more hassle than it's worth? My bike has an oil pressure warning light so could I get an electronic gauge and just tap it into the sender?

The sender is just a switch. You could tap into the test port. I'll be picking up a in line tap for my cooler line. A 100 PSI gauge doesn't read low pressure well.

You need a 0 to 15 psi gauge.
You will get approx. 3 to 6psi cold and next to zero when hot with 10/40 oil.
With race 20/60 oil you get around 12 psi cold and 0 to 3 psi hot.
This is on a fresh "built" motor with perfect spec oil pump.
Marshall gauges make the one you need.
You can buy them with the correct angled fitting for the main oil gallery next to the ign cover.

I had no idea oil pressure is that low on these. I'm used to cars so I was expecting 80-90psi out of a 10,000RPM engine. I might not even bother then. Probably just going to stick an oil temp gauge on it and call it good.

Are you asking about the 750GPZ? If so, I think that is a plain bearing crank and should make quite a bit more pressure than the roller bearing liter bikes.

I believe these folks are thinking of the KZ1000 type engines. The oil pressure on the Kawasaki GPZ-750 is NOT in the 3 - 6 psi range! With the engine at normal operating temperature the oil pressure should be 20-36 psi. The oil filter relief valve opens at 74 psi.

I HIGHLY recommend you purchase a Kawasaki Service Manual that covers your bike's year & model. Ed

I do have a service manual, I just haven't sat down and read it cover to cover, I usually just flip to what I'm working on.

Well if that's the case maybe you should consider flipping to the section that discusses oil pressure. The manual describes all the systems on the bike, and it would be a valuable use of your time to read through it so you know what you're dealing with. There really is no better way to begin gaining an understanding of the machine. Think of it as your most valuable resource as far as the bike is concerned, because it actually is. Ed
