What can I do to diagnose the problem before I remove head?

1. Remove the head.
2. remove the barrels.
3. dismantle the engine.
4. replace cam chain and all associated parts.
5. re-new all gaskets and seals.
6. Rebuild correctly.
No point doing a half arsed job.
If the rollers have got that bad the rest of the motor needs a good looking at.
Most of the cost is in the top end anyway so its only a small cost percentage extra and an little bit more time to sort it once and for all.

Ive seen more front guides broke off in motors then bad rollers, that will make a lot of slack in the cam chain.

Where did this comment come from? I re read the thread several times and don't see why you are making this remark? Is it directed at me? Are you telling this guy to do a complete tear down and buy all new parts? I was simply stating that more slack can come from the front guide being broke off then any loose to deteriorated rollers.
