Thoughts on Conical/Beehive valve springs kz440

In theory the valve train weight should be less on the conical, and yes I know titanium works just as well in lowering weight.
I found that a 1.9L Saturn DOHC 91-98 year valve springs and retainers will work for a stock lift KZ440. Here are some specs. of what I have on hand.
A stock Kz440 retainer weighs 16 Grams while a stock Saturn retainer weighs 8.5 Grams.
Spring pressure that I have from the Kz440 are 28psi @ 1.335" while the Saturn is 62psi @ 1.330. Their was a slight difference in the assemble height between the different retainers.
My Kz440 springs coil bind at .967" while the Saturn's coil bind at .927
Pressure at coil bind for the Kz440 is 225psi and the Saturn is 243psi

It's going to be on hold because I have to find either a decent set of std. cylinders or some oversize pistons. It had a stuck ring on one piston and the cylinder has some water damage that only a boring and hone will take out. Minimum it has to go is .010 over.
I would do the 810cc piston but read another forum that it has a shorter compression height.
I'm a little picky on how the bore is.

Open pressures are almost identical within 10psi of each other with the higher pressure being on the stock kz440 spring.
The extra seat pressure shouldn't affect anything very much, If the open pressures were extremely high parts wear would be very noticeable.

Extra seat pressure will result in the valve receding into the head faster than normal. NOT good.

Im talking about the free length of the spring before its installed. If its longer or shorter than the factory specd springs it could either have more preload on it from being squeezed together to fit on which will beat up other parts in the valve train from opening and being slammed shut harder.13bravo wrote: Assembled height is virtually identical between the retainers. If its a shorter spring valves could float at higher rpms and tear up a lot of things.
Just saying.
