z1r wiseco turbo piston to wall? was created by mrdatsunturbo
Hi there i got a Message from my machinist today about what tolerances piston to the wall on my Z1R engine?
He is normally doing V8 drag engines .
So the only clearances on the Wiseco side says 001" to 003" is this enough for me?
Bike will be cruising around on street and not a drag bike . Thanks again

pro-tip.

the part number for the wiseco ring set is actually the finished dimension of the bore after honing in inches with the cylinder wall clearance figured in.

so the part number for the ring set for a 1075 is
2835XC

which means the finished dimension of the bore should be 2.835 inches.

1045cc K1045 $700.00 4022M07100 $160.00 2795XC (so here for the 1045 it will be 2.795 inches)

i have bored and honed thousands of cylinders to fit wiseco pistons and never had a problem using this formula.

Ok i buyed my piston from a drag racer who had done some 402m passes.
The piston measures 76.65mm or 3.016" and the Box is from another engine .
So i Guess they are old but almost New ,and very difficult to find/get some information about them.
I have contacted some Company about a New set of rings, but no.
So at this stage i am stuck, It is 25 years ago i remember i got the same question about some car turbo piston but cant remember tolerances.
Leon Yours best tip for me will be? .003 ?

yes sir .003 - .0035 will be sufficient .

make sure the ring end gap is set properly.

and follow proper break in procedures.

no problem,happy to help.
i bored a 750cc(twin) jet ski block last night and the guy used wsm pistons.
they called for 80.5 mm bore and i gave it (per wsm instruction)
.0045 (.114mm) cylinder wall clearance.
before i did the ski block i did a pair of banshee cyls.bored them to 64.25mm and they got .003 clearance.per wiseco specs.
if they had been mine i would have tightened em up a little more than that .0015-.002 but would have had a very regimented break in.
at the .003 clearance the 16 year old kid can throw it together and go wring it's neck without much worry over the break in process.

maybe more than you cared to know, hehe.
but there ya go.
