Leaking at tach cable was created by Topper
Well i think I found the culprit behind the growing leak ive been seeing at the tach cable on my 79 kz750.

This is the tach gear guide. Looks like some previous owner took a bite out of it. Ill replace this, the seal, o-ring and gasket.

BTW the shop manual is mum on how to remove this. That's because it's really easy. I thought I'd be picking at the seal for hours but the whole guide came out easily by just pulling on the tach gear.

Permanent and perpetual noob.

About 99% of the time, the leak is caused by an incomplete seal between the flanged lip on the cable piece and the corresponding flat surface on the mating tach drive piece. Once I made a gasket to seal that, I never saw the leak again.

Yeah there was no gasket at all. I don't like the look of that gouge in the gear guide. I think I'll replace all of the above. Parts are obtainable and affordable. So no reason not too.
