does the oil hole in the connecting rod face towards the front of the motor or towards the back? parts diagram seems to show it facing backwards but some pictures i found show it facing forward towards the exhaust side of the motor

Is there any differance from front to back of the big end of the rod?

yes between the big end and the wristpin end, one edge of the rod has an oil hole that is located on the outside of the rod, closer to the big end... it is used to lube the underside of the piston . i do not know if it makes any difference which way it goes, but i need to be sure before i put this engine back together.

The service manual - supplement for the 82 - seems to show the oil hole facing rearward
