So I just got my 1982 GPz750 back together after a top end rebuild, and I noticed that the new gasket for the reed valve/breather cover is so thick that the metal cover is now 1/16 inch above the metal surface of the valve cover after proper torquing. The new OEM gasket is a thick cork like item. Is this correct? Seems like the one I pulled out was a thinner material. Should I leave out the gasket and just three bond the reed valve to the surface? Should I get rid of the entire crankcase venting
tube and just put a filter on the crankcase vent? Thanks in advance for your advice, Mark

I'd say forget about it and go ride the thing.

Never mind! The old gasket was still in there, but it was so black it blended in and I couldn't see it. Mark

In that case I'd say pull the covers off and remove the old gaskets just in case they develop a leak.
