valve shim increments. was created by cafebrat
Hey guys,
Just wondering how other go about the valve shim specs. For example, i have a few that are only fitting the .002 feeler gauge, which is within spec (.002-.006) But tighter than i would like to see it. Because the valve shims only come in increments of .5 (2.40, 2.35, 2.30 etc) this means i can either leave it at .002 or come down one shim size and end up at .007 clearance being .001 too much. How do you find the sweet spot on these clearances and would you rather go the .001 larger rather than leave the current shim with a .002 clearance gap?
thanks in advance guys!

Use a calipers to check their thickness. Sometimes they are labeled wrong.
