I might be running a z4 (420 lift) camshaft. Do I need to run shim on bottom tap pets?????

on a z1/kz 1000 you are right on the edge for going to shim under buckets. you could run shim on top but for safety reasons I wouldn't, too easy to spit a shim.

I have several sets of Z4's installed with SOT but........... there better be good springs CORRECTLY setup run valve clearance at .004in and keep an eye on everything
