How many miles on the bike ?? it could be just a matter of adjusting the clutch cable, follow the directions in your FSM

I would still check the valves and guides. When you drain your oil, if you see shiny particles in the oil like color, you know you have a problem. I did.

Did you get the 650 manual or one for the 750-4? You'll probably need both.
It helps to mention the exact 650 model.

Note: some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in the links: the 1981 Ltd is an H2, the 82 is an H3, & the 83 is an H4.

I had particles like that in a Honda once it was the timing chain cutting a slot in the cylinder because the tensioner had failed.

I busted a cam chain in 78, all hell broke loose. Went from 903 to 1015. It was cheaper that way and I rode it with stock cams until 86.

New filter and some Rotella 15w40 and go ride it if the motor was hurt
the filter would look like a bass boat.

1980 KZ650 F1

VM 29 smooth bore's.
Dyna 2000 Ign. w/Dyna mini coil's
APE cylinder stud's and nut's.
APE valve spring's.
APE Track King clutch.
V/H KZ1000 sidewinder.
3.5x18 laced to a KZ1000 disk hub.
150/60/18 Shinko 006 Podium.
63" wheel base.

Now there is oil leaking from the head gasket on the cyl all the way on the right side.

Post a pic of the whole bike and one of the vin.# on the motor
so we have a better idea of what you have to work with.
