I was thinking of doing similar, but getting a second set of headers to play with, then hooking some straight pipes from the union/collector area out the back.
if you do hack on a set make sure you go to an exhaust shop and get some that run out the back or invest in earplug stocks.

you could re-jet for this to make it run right though couldnt you?Bikes a real susceptible to exhaust and intake changes. You could lean out your air fuel mixture and cause damage or hurt performance.

I understand these set up is rather difficult to tune (jet) though. Try it out if you don't mind getting yourself another pipe or are planning on getting an after market pipe later anyway.
