Tach Drive was created by MAR
I have a new tach and it is grossly inaccurate. At low RPM it looks fine. When revving, it goes WILD.
Is there some sort of tach drive in the head that can be replaced? I am assuming, where the tach cables goes into the head there is a something worn out.

Thanks so much.

Verify that the cable and wheel mech is lubed properly. If this is not the problem you may need another meter. The tach units have sealed oil in them and are not serviceable to my knowledge. R

Yes gauge and cable new. It works fine until the revs go up. Both cable ends greased well.
Is it possible the new tack is bad?

Looks like the new one is crap! It's not the cable or the worm gear on the exhaust cam. That stuff can't change.
There are some other forum topics about this same thing happening.
Was the tach New manufactured? Or just a new one to you? As bought used or whatever?

All of those are junk...evening if you get one that's works it'll be temporary.
Best if you can find one used in good condition.

Well, we'll see how long mine last. 2000 miles on the speedo and still steady.

If I were to do a new tach, I would gut my broken one and put the guts from an electronic tach in the case.

Actually I am doing that, just have to find a broken kz tach to do it with

my bikes; 80kz1000(project), 77 gl1000, 74 h2 (project)
