oil filter change

oil filter change was created by Kwaker2000
hi folks just changed my oil and filter on my csr1000 ,but did it on center stand ,pulled drain plug first then oil filter ,
replaced both then went to fill oil up put 3 liters in ran engine oil light was on for a moment then it went out ,let tick over a few mins ,stopped engine looked in sight glass and its on top mark ,have i put too mutch oil in ,or should i have drained oil on side stand

You changed the oil correctly, used the correct oil, and did not overfill it. You can add more oil until it rises to the top of the site glass, and that will bring the total amount of oil closer to 3500cc. On my KZ650 the recommended amount (3500cc) brings it to the very top of the site glass. Ed

You get a better drain on the center stand. But if you are really fanatical about getting ALL the old oil out, you can take out the spark plugs and use the kickstarter to turn the engine over which will pump out the oil in the filter and inside the engine. I think that's overkill.

As for the sight glass: looks fine, but with new filter you need to run it maybe 15 minutes or more and get the filter fully saturated, then let it sit for an hour to let it fully drain down.
