Best black paint for Generator cover? 1982 GPz750 was created by Madtrout
Can anyone reccomend a glossy black paint for the generator and pickup covers for my 1982 GPz750? I was thinking of going with the VHT glossy engine enamel for its high temp qualities.
Also, the Kawasaki emblems that attach to these covers are rather worn and I'd like to replace. They seem to unavailable from the regular parts suppliers. Anyone have an idea where to get new ones? Thanks, Mark

I used VHT Satin Black and it was quite glossy, more so than the stock Kawasaki paint. The VHT is very brittle paint and it will crack and chip under the screw heads. I used the stuff but can't recommend it for this reason. Maybe try PJ1 paint instead?

Baldy, it says to use over primed or painted area
what primer did you use?
& it doesn't say what heat temp it can withstand

I used Por-15 Engine Enamel on a Suzuki GS1000 engine (silver) and it turned brown quite quickly. The black should be better but I'm leary.

I don't use any primer, I sandblast the part, clean it up then treat with por 15 metal prep. I then heat in an oven then remove and spray the paint on. Very durable stuff and keeps the shine.
