Hi,

I have an '81 gpz that I'd like to change that big dash out for some round gages. The speedo appears to be electronic. Can anyone tell me what year and model round gages would interchange? Also, the key currently goes in the panel below the dash that has the odometer in it. I don't really need the odometer and it won't go with the round gages. Can I just replace the key switch with a stand alone? Again, what year and model would work?

thanks, Matt

A clue might be checking out the differences between the GPz1100 B1 and B2 model.

The oversize instrument panel was to deflect windblast, prior to th later model with a fairing. I always think they look quite iconic as in a traditional musclebike style.

Which model GPZ do you have? I have a 1981 GPz750 speedo drive in my garage it looks very much like the drive on my KZ1000 and KZ650 other than it's painted black, it would be very easy to hook that up to some older style instruments. As the front wheel would be the same on a GPZ1100 then it seems there would be a way to fit a mechanical drive to that wheel if the 750 had it. A lot of Kawasaki parts will interchange between models, it's usually easiest to find all the bits on a donor bike that you would need to swap over. There are also electronic gauges that are old style available out there. For the old British bikes you can get instruments that look just like the old Smith's gauges but, run from an electronic sensor.

The 1981-82 LTD 1000 used round, electronic instruments. They might be an easy fit.

1982 KZ1000 LTD parts donor
1981 KZ1000 LTD awaiting resurrection
2000 ZRX1100 not ridden enough
