Cam Shaft Timing - Chain Count was created by TomasDouglas
I am questioning the best way to locate the chain and count the link pins. The manual shows that you line up the right exhaust cam EX mark with the top of the cylinder head then pull the chain tight and then count the pins and locate the inlet cam Z5 IN mark between the 43 and 44 pin. When I pull my cam chain tight (see picture) and put it on the cam with the EX line even with the cylinder head I am in the middle of a link unlike the diagram from the manual that shows it between two links, Should I keep it in the middle of the link and count the 43 links and locate the inlet cam in the middle of the link or should I move the EX line up or down so that it is between two links?

As long as you are the correct amount of pins apart and everything lines up you should be right, make sure to double check everything and slowly turn over the motor by hand before cranking with the starter.

if you have a look at this post you will see I had a similar problem to you.
