If you are asking about the cam chain, the culprit could be

Valves out of adjustment
Carbs out of adjustment
Chain tensioner stuck or weak
Rollers worn out
Chain worn out
1982 KZ1000 LTD parts donor
1981 KZ1000 LTD awaiting resurrection
2000 ZRX1100 not ridden enough
