I have come to own one of these and am wondering if anyone can shed some light on how the anti freeze system works. The carbs were off and some parts are missing any information on how it is assembled and works would be great. I have looked in the FSM and found no information regarding it.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Antifreeze? you mean the carb icing modification? I think they were retrofitted to some models that had carb icing problems, may have been a factory recall on some . They are electrical heater elements in the float bowls IIRC. Probably not necessary unless you are riding in very cold weather.

If I owned a water cooled bike with alloy head I'd take antifreeze quite seriously, particularly the corrosion inhibitor component.

In Australia it wont be but regardless I have the system so i might aswell have it do what it was designed for. It doesn't have heaters but has tubes that run into the carbs I think cooling fluid runs through them to cool the carbs then their is some valve that you can see on the outside information for this is very scarce.

I remember seeing it in the fsm for the 2000 ZRX1100. I'll try to dig it up tomorrow night or Wednesday unless somebody beats me to it.

air cooled use heaters, the water cooled use coolant I guess. The are there not to cool the carbs but heat them up!

Once I rode home 25 miles on damp night at or below freezing but never had carb icing problems, although I think I may have had the beginning of frostbite, very painful and a Dr was consulted. .

(spill petrol on your hand it feels cold - the 'latent heat' of evaporation: heat energy is needed to evaporate the petrol even though the temperature doesn't necessarily increase.)

Yes, engine coolant is circulated through the system to prevent carburetor icing in very cold temps. I'll dig up the ZRX manual and post what I find.

That would be great TexasKZ.

It is so odd the bikes frame number is one that falls into the 1986 bracket of serials(ZX900A-031001 - 035100). The funny thinf is that the engine is in the 1991 bracket(ZX900A-056001 - -068001) and the bike has all the 1990's gear.

41mm forks no ADVS
dual pot calipers both rear and front
17inch front wheel
twin throttle cable
anti icing system
(I might have left a few things out)

Another thing I noticed is that the factory manual for this bike is very different from my z500's. it it less informative about certain systems. It seems to expect more assumed knowledge. is this the case or do I have a dodgy internet copy of the manual.

I apologize for taking so long to reply. The fsm is rather cryptic on this subject, so I hope this is helpful.

It is for the ZRX1100 a descendent of the 900 Ninja
