Perhaps some discussion of pitfalls and attributes would help folks know what to look for when purchasing such an adventurous thing...

'J's were only 998cc and had a plain hemisphere chamber same as the earlier twin shock GPZ's.
This is either an 83 onwards 1100 Unitrack head converted to shim over or from the later Z1100 cooking motor which used the UNI head and shim over as std.

Thanks for pointing that out...topic corrected.
Looks like at least one cam end plug bolt hole has a helicoil thread repair, and perhaps others...

That is discouraging, but pales when contemplating how much work this head casting needs to be usable, or even user friendly.
Observing the listing pics closely, there are over-spray paint patterns on the part, suggesting it was originally from an 83-85 ZN1100, unpainted from the factory, which as I understand is exactly the same head as the ZX (GPZ), other than the valve-springs, buckets, cams, and...black paint.
It's obvious one or more PO's exercised little care when tightening bolts, and even less when attempting repairs of the thread damage.
Fortunately, this seller has provided a significant amount of information in his photographs, but valuable only if prospective buyer's use this exceptional evaluative tool that ebay has provided.
