I Love my KZ! I've had 3, but this '78 man she's a keeper!
Having said that, I need some help. Cylinders 1 & 4 are not firing. Points are clean and properly gapped. Ohms on primary are 4.3, secondary zilch & measured ohms on the caps and zilch as well & not the 5000 as it should be. Ok, I know what you're thinking.... bad coil.. maybe?? Well I performed all the same on the coil for 2 & 3, caps ohms were right at 5000, primary at 4.3 & zilch on secondary but plugs are getting spark. My Pops told me to switch coils and see if the problem follows.. does he mean leave the coils installed and just switch the primary? Also just to note spark plugs are new.

I could help you out if you were not too far from me but if everybody would update their profile so we knew where every one was located it would be great. :(

Hi, so your pop is right. What you do is switch the coils primary and secondary leads and use the coil from 1 and 4 cylinders for the 2 and 3 cylinders. So complete swap out. If the coil is bad you should fire on the 1 and 4 . If 2 and 3 don't fire then you have a bad coil. Hope this makes sense and is helpful. Good luck.

Completely makes sense now Markovich! Thanks for the reply.. I have to see things mentally or hands on to really understand them.. So I switched coils & indeed my coil for 1 & 4 is bad. I have 2 coils in route, also just to be safe in the future a points plate & condenser. The weird thing is, bike was running perfect prior to sitting for 2 weeks because of heavy rains.. Yes, heavy rain every day for two weeks! It SUCKED! After everything dried up, wanted to go for a ride & at start up nothin doin on 1 & 4.. I'm glad to finally be a part of KZR! I would like to Thank "Patton" & "650Ed" also because their replies to posts before I became a member have always been very helpful!

Could also have been corrosion in the joints between the plug ends (caps) and wires, might try cutting 1/4" off the end of the wire and re-installing the caps

That's another thing.. I checked Ohms on the caps for 2 & 3 and got around 5k, did the same for the caps on 1 & 4 and nada.

Damn, sorry it took me so long to get back on here.... I've been riding My KZ! Coils came in, I had the bike prepped & ready when the postman came by!! Threw those bad boys on, burned through a little old fuel and there she went! (With me of course lol) B)
