oil cooler line routing options was created by Tyrell Corp
For the 1000/1100 motors I see three ways of oil line routing: up and over the camcover as standard, under the sump or either or both sides of the cylinder block. The last option always looks really daft to me, so I'll probably go with the shortest lines up and over style. Any thoughts on this?

Over the top maybe standard , but to me the drawback is running COOLER lines in a restricted area for air flow between the head and the fuel tank. I thought the whole idea is to cool the oil, not help heat it.
Coming around the side can be made to look good with little trouble and routes the lines out side the confines of over the top and in the airflow.
I am going to run cooler lines under the motor tucked inside both frame rails where they will be protected and in the air for my application . But my cooler will be installed below the turbo header where as a normally aspirated bike doesn't have room there.
I would for most bikes take the lines around the right side to help stay clear of the header primary pipes

Side routing just looks so daft to me, below and under better but still close to the headers. I might just stick with the original idea with 'over the top' but going further back where the airbox would have been, like pic 1.

I suspect a lot of oil coolers maybe counter productive: a big oversize cooler blocking a lot of the windblast that should be going to the hottest part of the engine and steel hoses picking up heat from the block and headers.

Also, a thermostat should be installed so the oil temperature will not be too cold when first warming up the engine or riding on cool days. Too cold and condensation won't evaporate off.

I don't know for sure, but that might be what that silver device is that's spliced into the oil line behind the carbs in the 1st pic. Ed

Thermostats seem forgotten about on bike oil coolers, agreed

I agree that the low routing looks like it would pick up a lot of heat from the headers. That might not be a problem when racing because of the air rushing over the oil lines, but in street use it looks like it would heat the oil when stopping or going slow since those pipes get red hot. It might even damage the oil lines. Ed

Zed 1015 had built a turbo bike ages ago and had an excellent write-up of how he did his top end oil set-up......worth a read
I know it's not oil strictly oil cooler but it is related
