82 gpz 750 oil cooler lines
05 Oct 2015 19:07
Years ago I installed one of these on my 81 kz650. It worked fine without leaks. I took the engine apart 5 years ago  and now I am getting parts together and making lists of what is needed and noticed a leak (see attached image ). Anyone replace these with braided stainless ones? I would guess the top oil cooler connection would not be a big deal but the lower oil pan connection seems very specific.....

Have you tried a hydraulic hose repair shop? They might be able to rebuild the hoses using your old fittings. There is one near me that will do brake lines in SS so you should be able to get those hoses as well.

Braided steel lines and aeroquip fittings can be done, the oil cooler top thread is a JIC thread I think, but they are really difficult to separate even with heat and penetrating oil and usually shear in my experience.
Easier but more expensive get a new oil cooler complete with AN fittings. The bottom send and return pipes can be joined either by a hose clip and end finisher or better a thread brazed on.

Quick question: with the 82 cooler installed is there any issue with routing the tach cable?

07 Oct 2015 04:05I don't recall any issues. It's off the bike right now. I attached an old picture from when I first installed it.Nessism wrote: Quick question: with the 82 cooler installed is there any issue with routing the tach cable?

Hi Jeff, thanks for the photo and sorry for the thread drift. In looking at the photo I can see what looks like the tach cable just left of the horn but can't see how it routs up to the tach. I assume there is room for the cable under the cooler then? I'm installing the engine into my 750E and bought a cooler/oil pan off a ZX-7 and while fitting the cooler last night I noticed that it blocks the cable. Many of the later 750's came with an electronic tach so Kawasaki solved the issue that way. I'm going to try to chase down an early GPz cooler and lines. At any rate, any chance you can shoot a photo of how you mounted the cooler on the bike?

07 Oct 2015 04:58I just took some aluminum flat stock and used the horn mounting holes. This dropped it out if the way and worked well. I was living in Vegas when I installed it. Now I am going 810cc!Nessism wrote: Hi Jeff, thanks for the photo and sorry for the thread drift. Thanks for the photos Jeff. Mounting looks easy enough.
Found some photos on the net and it seems there is room under the cooler for the tach cable. I screwed up in purchasing the ZX-7 cooler since it's too big. Oh well, gotta buy a GPz cooler now...
