Hi Guys
New here and getting back at cycling after a 25 year hiatus. I have an 1100 with 23,000 miles that likes to spit and sputter till it is warmed up. Are these bikes jetted lean from the factory for the 80's emissions? I have done all the usual stuff, like plugs, wires, made sure carbs were clean etc. The needle on carb 4 was out of place, causing midrange stumbling, but this has been corrected.

thanks Ed

My '83 1100 shaft was lean, it has 37.5 pilot jets stock, and even with the idle screws set at 3.25 turns out it's still lean, takes a lot of choke to run from cold. I have bought 40s for it that I think will fix that. I also added shims under the slide needles and that gave the midrange a lot better pull. Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks also.

Bought a KZ1100 shaft drive new in '82 and it did the same thing as yours, was jetted very lean. First thing done to it was to shim the jet needle up with one small washer and that helped it to run perfect through all rpm ranges, hot or cold. Only got 35-40 mpg with that bike, but it was a blast, until hitting a deer on the highway.
