im new to this forum... so firstly hello!
im building a kz400 cafe racer, i started to rebuild the engine and found the balancer chain sprocket on the crank has completely warn out
its a 75' 400D cant seem to find a replacement crank here in England, i can find a 77-78 engine that needs rebuilding could i use the crank from that engine??? or do the different years have different cranks???

I remember a few guys on the kz400 site removed the balancer assembly on thier project bikes. The result is reduced rotating mass and snappy throttle response. The additional vibration was not too bad either.
Can you take a picture of your crank gear? It's pretty unusual to have a worn balancer chian unless the thing was run out of oil.

Thanks for the replys!
I'll upload a photo tonight!
When I opened the engine the cam chain guide had sheared so I think the chain had been running over the gear rubbing it away over time.
So is building it with our the balancers a
Realistic option??? I'd be more than happy to Go without them if it won't damage the engine in the long run, I just assumed it would be shaken apart with out them..
This was ment to be a 'cheap build' how wrong was I .
Thanks again chaps
Any more thoughts would be ace!
