GPZ, or J-model cam sprockets was created by daveo
Looking for performance advice... :)

I have J-model sprockets currently mounted on the 84 GPZ cams in my 1100 J-engine, and wonder what the effect would be if they were changed back to the original GPZ sprockets that came on them?
When retrofitting my engine with the 84 ZN 1100 head this past Spring, I followed advice to swap the sprockets, without having the benefit explained to me. I'll be checking valve clearances soon, and would rather avoid doing it twice.
The piston valve pockets were relieved to accept either sprocket setup, so I have no concern about that.

best bet would be to order slotted cam sprockets and degree cams in.

Sounds complicated for a bolt-in kind of guy like me...never done that before. Are adjustable sprockets available for the two-bolt GPZ cams?
Would my experience be less than great if I just run the GPZ sprockets as-used on the original 84 ZX1100 engine they came out of?

Without either of us knowing more here about your exact cam timing and piston/valve clearances I'd proceed with caution.

Your standard cam sprockets can be slotted, or there are aftermarket ones available I think.

The late GPz had a wild 300 degree cam, unless you have a better idea - and can degree those settings in precisely, stick with the stock setting, that will be tuned towards very strong rpm power - although modest bottom end power.

The late 120 bhp zx 1100 was wringing the last bit of power out of the the bored out old kz900 architecture, by long duration cams and bigger valves. A street tuned kz new and out of the box.
