stock exhaust material

Hi all,
What is the stock exhaust on a kz650 made of? Chromed stainless steel? If it matters, I have a 1980 kz650F1. I'm wondering because my exhaust is cracked right in half by the crossover pipe and I need to get it welded. Material determines who can weld it.
