GPZ 1100 wont go into 2ed

:woohoo: :woohoo: anyone elss had this with any kz or gps i have a gpz 1100 1983 supost to be a 5 speed i have the engine out and apart to get the trany to go thowe the gears i had to take out the 1st/ 2ed shift fork wired thing is i go tho my gears and i still have 4 gears knowing i took out 2 and one know anything on y i would stop meshing in to 2ed gear looks like nothing is in the way but i know nothing about tranys :woohoo:

Your transmission is designed to not shift into the upper gears unless the bike is moving. The 3 little ball bearings shown below are part of the lockout mechanism. Ed

Yup, I've found myself looking for something wrong until I remember that. I've only had the bike 40 years but I seem to forget that.

yea just found that out after i took the oil pan off and took the shift fork for 1st gear out good thing i already had to pull my oil pan already is this a 1100 thing never had it on any of the others kinda pain in the ass

It's a nice feature unless you are trying it out on the bench. I had one member e-mail me, he was frantic. Complete overhaul and can't shift it on the bench. I told him about it and haven't heard from him since.

I figured this out quick after getting my rearsets and linkages mounted and couldn't find 2nd lol Immediately hit google and let out a big sigh of relief!
