Reed valve covers

Took the reed valve cover off to see the condition of the reeds and they apparently bought autozone out of they're rtv silicone. Also I thought there was supposed to be a vent nipple coming off of these. Will this hurt the bike if the valve cover can't vent?

Nope, most guys cap them with an aftermarket or home made cover. APE I believe makes one you can buy. I had the original with the nipple on them and cut the hose short that was attached to the nipple and plugged it with a bolt and a hose clamp ( cant see it with the tank on and cost much less than the covers unless you nake them yourself ) .

The CAS ( clean air system ) was an epa regulation back in the day if I am not mistaken and the bike does just fine with it removed.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationBuy these & connect the hose to each other, or your bike will not run right with those holes in the breather caps

I Think only the American models had the breathers. For environmental controls.Something to do with sending the partially unburnt exhaust gases back into the airbox to be reused!? European models didnt have this and Just came with closed plates. If theyve not got APE stamped on them theyre probably original equipment.

Kinda odd and kinda cool at the same time that it isn't an american engine. is it safe to say I can go with out the air valve assembly. Im gonna be running pods anyway

The reed valves allow oxygen to enter the exhaust port so that any unburned fuel is consumed. BMW used that same system design to get their twins to pass the emissions tests.
