GPz550 Oil Leak was created by mangosteen
Hi all,
I just picked up an '83 GPz 550 with an '84 engine in it. It has a pretty ugly oil leak coming from what appears to be the gear shift shaft/rod(?) seal. The previous owner was 95% sure that this was the source of the leak. Before I tear into it- any tips, hints, or cautions I should know of?
I've read a bit about there being a risk of pulling the shaft out too far and having issues with something (not sure what) coming loose and dropping into no man's land. Any advice is very welcome and appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

Just fixed this on mine, the inner transmission cover comers off, under the outer casing.
Replace the oil seal on the gear shaft outer casing too - same part number, gives a really nice smooth gear shift.
(total misuse of an 'oil seal' but it works, cheaper than a bearing...kawasaki got 99% of their designs so right) )
