engine swap was created by Teddybear_75
Wasup guys. I have a 1985 Kz750. I found a 85 Gpz 900 Engine for cheap. Will the gpz engine fit in my kz?

Depends on how much fabricating you are willing to do. As I recall, ( I'm old and willing to be corrected), the 1982-85 750 GPZ engine was based on the KZ750, a completely different critter from the 900 GPZ. In 1986, an all new 750 GPZ engine came out that was almost identical to the 900, except for the bore. The later GPZ 750 would be a good candidate for the 900 swap, but I ain't so sure about the early ones.

It will not be a direct swap. If you are creative enough, have enough resources ($), and are willing to do some research it is possible, but still not easy. Here's a pic of a KZ650 with a KZ1000 engine (bumped up to around 1400cc !) installed. The frame had to be modified to shoehorn it in there. Ed

Wow! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I wonder if he has to pull the engine to adjust the valves?

Evenso, that is pretty dang cool.

I don't know if he does. When I shoehorned a 500cc BSA twin into my 350cc BSA single frame the only way I could remove the valve cover was to remove the nuts from the top of the studs, lift the cover until it hit the frame backbone, and then reach in between the cover and the cylinder head with vise grips and unscrew the studs. Once the studs were removed I could maneuver the valve cover out from between the cylinder head and frame. Oh what fun! Ed

That engine is ground up redesign and bear no rebalance what so ever with the air cooled motors. That is going to be a lot of work.

If I knew what I was doing all the time life wouldn't be any fun.

Just a thought but If you could also somehow get hold of the 900 frame, with the wheels, brakes, suspension, seat, tank, electrics etc, you might be able to do something with it.
