TPS for GPZ 1100 1983
05 Jun 2015 15:20 - 07 Jun 2015 17:56
Well I had to find my own way !
This Throttle Position Sensor is near to impossible to find. I had a guy ship me the whole Throttle body unit with TPS attached but what I got was the throttle body with a cover and NO TPS
What I did here will help those that cant find a TPS for the GPZ 1100 & 750 Turbo and what ever bike this part fits.
The problem is the plastic center pivot behind the TPS got worn and moves freely from side to side and in and out. What I did was stop the pivot from moving freely by 75%.
Cut the top of the TPS off with a Dremel tool.
Lightly sand away any plastic shavings that would interfere with a good seal when re-attaching.
Use epoxy putty and fill the center circular impression behind the cover you just cut off. Use a knife and level the epoxy putty to the plastic.
Before the putty hardens re-attach the cut off cover to the main housing to get an impression on the epoxy putty, Don't push the center, Just around the edges where was cut.
Use a Dremel circular grinding flat bit to make a hole through the EPOXY PUTTY to plastic. Make sure the hole you make is the same size as the Throttle Body Shaft, the raised EPOXY PUTTY inpression is your guide.
Use only Mass AirFlow Sensor and clean the main interior housing. I sprayed, shook, rotated the pivot from side to side, and used compressed air to blow it dry also used a Qtip to clean the slider.
I used JB WELD to bond the cover back to the housing. I mixed the 2 parts together and let it stiffen up before attaching the plastic cover back to the TPS housing.
Use something with a hole in the middle to place the TPS on top of to dry. The metal center behind the TPS should be facing down.
Let dry for 24 hours.
My bike is more responsive and Idles once again. This was just a quick fix, my bike is now rideable. I'm STILL ON THE HUNT FOR A NEW TPS .
