Yoshimura 4 into 1 for Z1/KZ1000 was created by KZ1000Z1
Hi, I've seen various Japanese websites selling a Yoshi 4 into 1 machine bent "40th" edition cyclone for the Z1 and Z2. Does anyone know if this would fit a 1978 KZ1000? In the late 70's I used to run one on my KZ1000, my mechanic insists they would fit however I'm not so certain. I would think if they fit a KZ1000 the ads would include the KZ1000 and not just the Z1 and Z2. Thank you in advance for any replies.

The only real difference in the frames in regards to the exhaust system are the muffler mounting locations.

Hi Doug. Thank you for the quick response. When you say muffler mounting locations, are you talking about both sides of the frame where the muffler(s) attach? In theory then, the aftermarket Yoshi header offered over in Japan should fit at the engine block as both the Z1 and KZ1000 share the same engine configuration with the exhaust port(s) also being the same? I'm currently running a Mac with the canister on the right side of the bike. Thanks/David

You may need to install a bracket of some kind between the pipes canister ( collector ) and the exhaust mounting point on your frame. I had to do so on my 78 LTD 1000 back in the day. Not a big deal.

Doug, I was able to install the yoshimura 4 into 1 on my 1978 KZ1000. It's a nice pipe however I don't think the sound is as menacing as I thought it would be. It seems that there are two types of these 40 anniversary aftermarket cyclones. One has a less restrictivve baffle and therefore puts out more DB and the other one has a more restrictive baffle which I have. The baffle cannot be removed.. I'm still on the hunt for the original, vintage yoshi..I see there's an original on ebay for a thousand bux however it's chrome. Not as nice as the black..Again, thanks for your various responses and help..David

From what I understand, a lot of exhausts come with a road baffle (more restictive and quieter) or a race baffle (usually staright through and a lot louder). Sounds like you have a road baffle. You should be able to change it. Probably you would have to drill out some rivets. I think with the race baffles you need to play more with the jetting and god knows what else. It depend son what you want.
(I agree about the chrome . If you have the money you could get it ceramic coated)
Congrats on getting yourself a Yoshi anyway
